Mount Racism on the Brink of Eruption

The race baiting and the violent rhetoric is heating up in America.

People are showing up at Obama speeches armed.  Others are sporting signs saying, “We came unarmed–this time.”

Other signs say, “It’s time to water the tree of liberty,” referring to Thomas Jefferson’s quote “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

Comparing Obama to the genocidal Adolf Hitler, murderer of millions, has become commonplace.

Two nights ago (9/14/09) on CNN, Tea Party leader Mark Williams called Obama an “Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug and a Racist-In-Chief.”

When a child was beaten up on a school bus recently, sensationalist internet news aggregator Matt Drudge reported “White student beaten on school bus; crowd cheers.”

Rush Limbaugh took it a step further.  “You put your kids on a school bus, you expect, (pause) you expect safety, but in Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up, with the black kids cheering, ‘Yay, right on, right on, right on, right on,’ ” said Limbaugh, “and of course everybody said, ‘Oh, the white kid deserved it, he was born a racist, he’s white.’ ”

Under the administration of our first black president, the drums of racism are beating more loudly, and the roar of the crowd is gaining volme.  Some of the drum beaters are racist themselves; others are cynical political operatives skilled at achieving their political objectives by appealing to the lowest common denominator in the masses.

The vast majority of our citizens are sane peope.   The vast majority of Americans also are not racist.  A considerable majority report no guns in their household.  But, there is a frightening minority that are neither of the three.

It is that trifecta on the fringes, the mentally unstable racists gun owners, for whom the drums toll loudest.

If the volcano erupts violently, the drum beaters will have blood on their hands.
